Roe overturned. What this means in North Carolina and beyond:

Today, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a 49-year-old precedent that women across America have depended on for their constitutional right to make their own medical decisions. The Supreme Court's decision today was wrong. Years of anti-democratic work by right-wing extremists culminated in the election of Donald Trump and the appointment of three right-wing extremist justices.

I'm going to ask you to chip in to my campaign, but let me first explain why that's a critical action to take in the face of this news:

When I went to Iraq and fought for my country, I wasn't just fighting for my flag and the guys in my unit. I was fighting for our Constitution and for the freedom of the American people.

But, as I've said many times, there are people in this country who don't believe in freedom for all Americans. That's why I decided to run for office and serve the people of Western North Carolina.

Now, protecting the right to choose falls on the states. Here in North Carolina, abortion remains legal – for now. But there are plenty of radical politicians – like Mark Pless – who see today's decision as a chance to use government power to force a woman to have a child.

We can't let that happen.

Grassroots campaigns like ours have to step up, show up at the polls in record numbers, and send folks to Raleigh who will protect reproductive choice in North Carolina.

Because together, we can overwhelm the will of those justices with the will of the people.

In fact, we have to. And our moment to act is now.

I can't do this alone. Donate now and fuel our grassroots campaign to defend North Carolina's reproductive freedom from right-wing extremists.
